Hypocrosy, the new religion
Published on May 27, 2004 By gothic impulse In Blogging
This is my rant ..so I'll bitch if I want to.

Warning ..this is a RANT ..this article may offend.

Disclamer ... this article in no way is directed at any true christians.

I am heartily sick of the people who hide behind the church ....use it to excuse their bigotry and hatred.
The pious, holier than thou attitude of these people when they are found wanting everyday in their own actions.
People whose hearts are full of hatred, lack compassion and understanding.
The ones who can't admit they hate and fear ...so use religion as their excuse to pour venom on things they dont understand.

Obviously I am not a religious person, this doesn't make me a bad person. I know alot of people who believe in God but not in organised religion. Every religion has good points and bad points. Every religion would have you believe that their way is the best and only way.

I respect peoples religious beliefs ..I don't try to force my beliefs on anybody. I find it hard to understand how you refuse to accept others religious beliefs but then try to force everyone to live by yours.

I have observed quite a lot of this lately. Take the gay marriage debate.... are they asking to be married in your church? I have heard all the " It is against the bible " correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the bible written by men but inspired by God's word? Hasn't the bible been translated? I wonder how infallible all the people involved in this process were. ( when you consider that Cinderella's slippers started off as fur and ended up glass in the translation). And after all isn't the bible only relevant to your religion?

Or like the word marry... you can marry ideas ...a business partnership is a type of marriage, a loving partnership is a marriage. As far as I can see if it doesnt involve your church what gives you the right to judge.I have heard the arguments that America was founded on christian beliefs. Maybe because at that time it was full of christians ..since then it has evolved into a multi-cultural society.( Although from things I have read about American history these people weren't very christian, in some of their actions... were they? )

I just wonder if Jesus ( remember him, the dude you are supposed to believe in) was here today ...what would he think of the actions you perform in his name? Jesus who according to you ..was full of compassion and understanding ...believed in helping the unfortunate ...believed in turning the other cheek. What would he say ..my guess " He who is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone."

My belief is quite simple if people are doing something that makes them happy and harming no one else in their pursuit of it, more power to them ..let them be ....worry about something that actually effects you.

As i said ..I don't force my beliefs on people but I do expect them to honour the beliefs they are spouting.

Matthew 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

That was an excellent article Jess, you got your point across, but you did it with respect, and I agree with everything you said. I'm not at all religious, but I have respect for people that are. Though in my opinion it is for people who are willing to be lead, instead of making decisions for themselves, but I don't see anything wrong with that, if that is waht they believe in. Who am I to say they're wrong? That's just not the way I want to live my life. I have beliefs, and I answer to myself, that's all I need. I was going to write an article similar to this, but I'm glad you did it, so much better than I ever could!

hehehe - It was only a matter of time until you had you first religious rant!!!

I just went crazy with all the preaching going on! now I just stay away!!!! This was mine if you are interested in my thoughts!

I digress though - It was a certain individual on JU who showed me a way of life that is closest to that of the Jedi, which is essentially, my religion Have you ever heard of Taoism? I hate to sound like a preacher here, but it certainly makes for some interesting reading!

gothic impulse- Excellent article and rant! I actually think if Jesus were here today, he'd be drinking wine with the ones being judged, tearing down a few Churches and sleeping with the homeless in the park.
There is a great quote by Kahlil Gibran I'd love to share with you. I hope it's OK. "Long ago there lived a man who was crucified for being too loving and too lovable. And strange to relate, I met him thrice yesterday. The first time he was asking a policeman not to take a prostitute to prison; the second time, he was drinking wine with an outcast; and the third time, he was having a fist fight with a promoter inside a church."

Your article gets an insightful from me.

Because, and I state this almost on a factial note that homosexuality verses fetish is in all legality and COMMON sense totally different. The whole point of entering into a homosexual marriage is by choice, and so is a hetero marriage, if I wasnt born in the 10th century A fucking D. Sure you have some statements that merit something, but I doubt by me. I find it funny, that again in the article, the author states that if its not hurting you why pitch a bitch. And when it comes down to it, how are homosexuals wanting to legally get married affecting you in any form or fashion, did they steal a spot at the super market, take your movie theature seat, bump you out of some income? I really didnt think so.

I think presonally you are against it for a more psychological stand point, which from what you have written above holds no weight on the actual article its self. In fact the article is a religious article to begin with not the legality of gay or lesbianistic marriage, that article is a few pages over.

Instead of making a giant diatribe as you so obviously have here, you need to think about the over all contextial matter of the article and legality of gay marriage is not it.

Little Whip ...I read your comment and I wrote out a huge reply.

Then decided I wouldn't bother.

That you even find the fact that your liking your husband to dominate you and homosexuality fall under the same heading of choice, shows i would be wasting my time.

Also as Thomas pointed out ....this is a rant about people who hide behind religion.

As a happilly married woman i kinda take offence to the comments comparing marriage to slavery. Maybe pre 1950 before woman's liberation etc. But now marriage gay/straight is a CHOICE - it's a decision one doesn't enter into lightly. Now especially in Australia thereis almostno formal need to get married beecause in the eyes of the government centrelink etc if you've been living with someone for (i think) more then 9months you're considered to be in a defacto relationship.

Also I'm an in no way my husband's "slave" He doesn't own me - I exercise my free will - our marriage is a PARTNERSHIP! All decisions discussed at length and agreed upon together. I'm not a sexual masochist. What's more I would hazzard a guess most regular married JoeUsers would agree.
on May 27, 2004
Trina I don't think the comment was comparing marriage to slavery. It is a master/slave relationship who wed.

Exactly Trina .. a marriage should be a partnership, I actually find it disturbing that a person who married to " fit in" and not for any of the reasons you mentioned voices an opinion on whether or not gays should have the right to wed.

Thank you for your input and it is obvious from reading your articles that you have been blessed with a wonderful marriage.
